Time really a dimension?

Isn't it possible for movement in a 2 dimensional world? Left, right, forwards, backwards. If time is necessary for movement then there would have to be time in a 2 dimensional world. Would that make time the 3rd dimension in this world? Then what about in first dimension? I'm not sure we should classify time as a dimension if it's just a part of every dimension.

Interesting question. However, according to relativity and the application of 'time' in modern theoretical physics, it is intricately linked to space itself. Many physicists consider space and time one in the same. I also have this view as the concept of time is but an explanation from an observer of the universe as a means of comparison to aid in understanding and explanation. Without the comparison of now to then, is there really time? Or just our movement through spacetime?
